Kinex Founder Helps Start New Organization

In an effort to keep the Independent ISP industry viable strong, Kinex founder Jim Garrett, along with 10 other ISP owners across the US, recently founded Independent ISPs for America.

"The new organization is unlike any other in this industry," said Garrett during a recent interview.   "The recent FCC rulings and lack of enforcement of the Telecom Act of 1996 has had a profound effect on our industry and the competitive telephone industry as well.  You don't see competing telephone companies in Farmville, and the climate will not change unless we get involved."

That is precisely why IIA was founded.  To have an organization that educates the consumers and takes the message to Washington.  The true innovation of the Internet and new technologies was founded by the small ISPs and its customers and if the large telcos have their way, the small ISPs will be forced out of the market and the telephone companies will run the Internet.

"This frigthens me, so we are getting involved in an effort to change the direction Washington is taking our industry," said Garrett.  "We have almost 20 members ISPs and we participate in monthly round-table discussions in Washington with 42 other asscociations and businesses.  We are pretty positive about what we can do and  hope to make a real difference."
