Keep Technology Jobs in Farmville!
We currently have 12 resumes in our files of bright young people that want to advance in the technology field, but we just don't have the openings for them. Some people in the community use Ceva.net as their ISP, they in turn outsource their tech support out of state, thereby exporting technology jobs out of the state. Meckcom.net does the same thing, these electric cooperatives even outsource their engineering support out of the state of Virginia. If you use AOL, some of the tech support personnel that you reach when you call AOL are located in India. "I just don't know if people don't realize this, or if they just don't care what they are doing to our young people and their opportunities," said Jim Garrett, of Kinex. "It's truly disheartening to have a young person bring me a resume and know that they are going to have to leave this community to get a technology job. If they don't have a local storefront, then they aren't employing local people and aren't paying local taxes."
